Welcome to our blog. Today we are going to discuss a few troubleshooting tips for a Whirlpool oven. In doing so, we believe it will help you decide if you need oven repair assistance. If your oven does not heat up quickly, does not heat up at all, the oven door won’t open, or the control panel is blank, then you’ve come to the right place.
In the context of an oven that has forgotten how to obey simple commands such as On or Off, Cook or Bake, it could be that your oven is in need of a professional adjustment. Our job at ABA Appliance Repair is to diagnose why the oven has lost its touch with your need for cooked food.
The following should spell out a few troubleshooting tips that you can do yourself. But if it’s something other than the simple replacement of a fuse or resetting your circuit breaker, we recommend you call the professionals at ABA Appliance Repair at 512-646-0002. But before you make that call, let’s see if it’s something you can troubleshoot and repair yourself.
If you smell gas fumes, whether the oven is on or not, go outside, turn off the gas, and call ABA. This is not a repair that we would recommend you do yourself.
Remember, anytime you begin any type of work on the oven, be sure to unplug it or turn off the circuit breaker.
If the oven is not heating or does not come on at all, it could be the thermal fuse. Check your owner’s manual for the exact location of the fuse but note that it is probably located somewhere behind the back panel. If the thermal fuse is okay, then reset the circuit breaker. The control panel and clock (unless the clock is battery operated) would be dead in either case.
Whirlpool gas ovens need the start button pushed to begin cooking and if not pushed within 5-seconds a reminder displays on the control panel. If the start button is not pushed within 1-minute of setting the cooking time, the cooking function turns off.
You could try power cycling the unit which simply means unplugging the oven for 10-15 seconds and plugging it back in. If after performing this task the control panel is still dead, it needs to be replaced.
One of the most common problems with Whirlpool ovens is with the broiling or self-cleaning mode. The reason being because of the effect of rising heat into the control panel becoming too hot and burning out electrical components. However, the control panel could have blown out because of an electrical short or by over-pushing the control panel display buttons.
